Interview with Simone Cristicchi

“The function of music is to unite, elevate the spirit and awaken dormant consciences”

Singer-songwriter, theatre actor and writer. Simone Cristicchi is one of the protagonists of the Aqua Festival, an event that brings music to Jesolo beach, from sunrise to sunset. His performance is on Wednesday 28th June on the beach in Piazza Brescia.

Simone Cristicchi, what emotions do you feel when singing by the sea?

An unprecedented emotion, through a special concert where I will tell stories relating to my songs and my singular artistic journey. I would like to give to the public a unique sharing experience, an unforgettable memory.

What messages emerge from your “Concert in miniature”?

I believe that in today’s world an artist shouldn’t be a mere entertainer and that music should rediscover its original function: that of uniting, elevating the spirit, awakening consciences that are dormant and crushed by the deafening noise that surrounds us. Thus, mine is a “quiet” concert where to give importance to the word in all its forms: from narration, to song, to poetry.

The target?

Together with the themes that I will discuss, I hope that the urgency of re-sacralising the word in its creative power will emerge from this show on the beach. 

An emotional sphere in connection with the nature that surrounds us. A leitmotif, that of this event in Jesolo, where the future should be though about. What do you think?

Events such as those of the Aqua Festival are a stimulus for everyone to seek a reconnection with our own time, to carve out a space for reflection in a society that wants us all to be divided, small entities untied from the collective context.

Where do we start from?

Nature, through its “wise book” can give us lessons of invaluable wisdom every day. As the wisemen say: “God is an ocean, and we are many small waves. If you experience the wave as “mine” and “me”, you will always have a separation from the divine. Whilst we all know that the ocean and the waves are the exact same thing.”
