Interview with Paolo Crepet

“Seek the adventure that life gives you”

by Alessio Conforti

Education, school, family and young generations. These are the themes closest to Paolo Crepet, a well-known psychiatrist and writer, who has been active in the publishing field for decades with successful books. He recently published his latest book “prendetevi la luna”. We met him in Portogruaro, despite dozens of tours throughout Italy, Veneto remains close to his heart. This he tells us, remains his land.

Professor Crepet, why did you choose the title “prendetevi la Luna “?

Because you have to go and look for it (look up to the sky). There’s a full moon, then it goes down and up again: it’s the metaphor for life. The best thing to do is not to sit still but to seek the adventure that life gives you. It’s a wonderful thing. Kids need to understand this.

Yours is a message for young people at a time when unfortunately the news reports episodes of violence and crime. Whose fault is this?

I think adults have a responsibility, because ultimately we are responsible for what kids do. Kids are also naturally responsible for their actions. Yet, I believe that the first reasoning must be done by us, as parents, educators or in any other role. We have to understand if this is what we want. And if not, to change it.

Then there is the theme of new technologies, social networks and influencers. What do you think?

Technologies are tools and you need to know what you use them for. I think if a boy or girl uses youtube to look for something, like for example the music of Aretha Franklin, or even the musicians of today, rather than following trends, it would be good. Because it’s a great encyclopaedia. Social media it is very different.

In what way?

Social media tends to replicate things that aren’t a good influence.

Young generations and fun: what would you recommend?

I think you can have fun without breaking everything or getting drunk like a soldier returning from a war. It’s nice to be confident in your own shoes. When one breaks rules, it is never a smart thing.

We know that Veneto is always in your heart …

Of course, it’s my land.

Your plans for the future?

I will continue to write and tour around Italy. Or maybe some new proposal will come up: let’s see. I’m always waiting for something different, which can happen at any moment.
