Christmas show

Dec. 10 and 11

At the Goldoni Theater, the Big Vocal Orchestra takes the stage with “All I want for Christmas is…” a concert-show with songs ranging from the soundtracks of famous movies, musicals, to gospel and pop-rock, all with original arrangements, theatrical readings and choreography. Conducting the choir is maestro Marco Toso Borella, a celebrated Murano glass artist known as the “Leonardo of Venice” for the multiplicity of art forms in which he excels.

Claudio Baglioni in Concert

At the Teatro Malibran, one of the greatest singer-songwriters in Italian music performs in concert at 9 p.m. Claudio Baglioni is fresh from winning the 2022 edition of the Premio Tenco, the highest award for Italian songwriting, and now comes to Venice with his new Dodici Note Solo tour. Voice, piano and other instruments with the most precious compositions of his repertoire are the protagonists of a fascinating tale of music, sounds and words.

New Year’s Concert

At the Teatro la Fenice a wonderful New Year’s concert with the theater’s Orchestra conducted by Daniel Harding and the Chorus by maestro Alfonso Caiani. On the program are the great works of classical music: from Mozart to Puccini, then Rossini and Verdi with the most beautiful compositions of all time. Soprano Federica Lombardi and tenor Freddie De Tommaso will also participate. The concert will also be broadcast live on RAI on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Regatta of the Befane

Jan. 6

The traditional water parade celebrated every year on Epiphany Day along the Grand Canal returns. The regatta, which began as a game, has now become a classic Venetian tradition that attracts curious onlookers and fans from all over the area. The route will take place over the course of the morning and the arrival of the procession is expected at Rialto where, to welcome the challengers, there will be pleasant entertainment and the awarding of the winning befana.

Venini: Light 1921-1985

Through Jan. 8

An exhibition dedicated to the history of the Venini glassworks opens on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. The exhibition aims to tell the story of the famous furnace’s activity in the field of lighting, a relevant area of Murano glass production. The famous “Velario” made for the roof of Palazzo Grassi will be set up and, as a tribute to Carlo Scarpa, the large polyhedron chandelier will be reconstructed.

Kandinsky and the Avant-Garde.

At the Candiani Cultural Center a very rich exhibition with masterpieces by great artists from the Collections of Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art. Curated by Elisabetta Barisoni, the exhibition named “Point, Line and Surface” takes its title from a famous book written by Kandinsky in 1926. Some of the exceptional works created by the famous abstractionist between the 1920s and 1930s will also be on view.
