Jesolo’s nativity scene in Assisi

The basilica of San Francesco in Assisi will host a monumental nativity scene made of Jesolo sand during the upcoming Christmas festivities. The traditional event that has been organised at the end of the year in the city for the past 21 years, known as Jesolo Sand Nativity, will also be proposed this year in the famous Umbrian town. The work will be created in the lower square of San Francesco, in the area in front of the lower entrance to the basilica. It will be 8 metres long, 4 metres high and 4 metres deep. The work will depict the Holy Family with St Francis and angels. After St Peter’s Square in Rome and Matera, the sand nativity in Jesolo thus reaches an international symbol of Christianity. The creation of this majestic nativity scene will begin in November. The inauguration of the sculpture is scheduled for Friday, 8 December. St Francis will also be a protagonist in Jesolo. The 2023/2024 edition of the Jesolo Sand Nativity will in fact be dedicated to the Saint, who will be depicted in some episodes that marked his life.
