European ITF Taekwondo Championship

7 days of competition with 27 nations

The European ITF Taekwondo Championship 2023 is coming back to Jesolo after a forced break due to restrictions in previous years. In fact, from Monday, April 17 to Monday, April 24, the Palazzo del Turismo becomes the scene of challenge between athletes from 27 European nations, ready to compete in taekwondo competitions. A Ukrainian delegation will also be present. The days of competition will be divided into categories according to age, starting with children aged 11 to 14, up to veteran gold, aged 46 to 55. Access to the event is limited. Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that originated between 1940 and 1950. Recognized as a full-contact combat sport, it is based, primarily, on the use of kicking techniques. Athletes are divided by gender, age and weight categories and wear the traditional “dobok” uniform. In South Korea it is the national sport, combining fighting techniques for self-defense and competitive practice that are used both as exercise and as a means for meditation. It is distinguished from other martial sports by the spectacular, effective and dynamic leg techniques. Initially admitted to the 1988 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Olympics as a demonstration sport, it was later officially included as an Olympic sport in Sydney in 2000. With as many as 70 million practitioners worldwide, Taekwondo has become the most popular martial art ever.
