“Drive safely, culture for life” – Pt. 5

by Manuel Nardin

Happy safe holidays

With a sample of 8,865 cars checked, the Vacanze Sicure 2023 survey highlighted an alarming fact: about 18 cars out of 100, i.e. almost one fifth of the vehicles involved, travel with irregular tyres. And if we consider also those cars that do not comply with the MOT requirements, the non-compliant cars in the sample in question rise to 25 out of 100. These are just statistical data, but are indicative of the indifference of many drivers. Here are some tips. Before starting a journey, you should always check the efficiency of your vehicle, especially if you have to face a long trip. Check tyre pressure, brakes and lights, engine oil and timing belt. Check the safety equipment and, even if it is not mandatory, always keep a first aid kit. Fasten and have everyone fasten their seat belts, even in the back seats. Pay attention to road signs: always drive safely. Rest before driving and remain alert: drive only if you are vigilant and don’t neglect any drowsiness. Don’t use your smartphone. Distraction is another major cause of accidents and is often due to the use of smartphones to call or send texts while driving. Comply with speed limits and safety distance, and overtake only when it is safe to do so. Adjust all the headrests and do not tilt the seat excessively: being comfortable and being positioned safely are not the same thing. Pay attention to the load: if it is very heavy, it can change the performance of the car, such as the braking time. Also beware of small objects that, if left free in the passenger compartment, may end up under the pedals preventing their use, or may turn into real projectiles in case of impact. Always take into account weather conditions, and consider that they may affect some aspects such as road holding, braking time, visibility and so on. Protect yourself, your passengers and the other drivers by driving responsibly. Let’s be responsible, dear friends.
