River Sile or Piave Vecchia

Our adventure, on foot or by bicycle, begins in Portegrandi, a charming lagoon village located a few kilometres from Jesolo. Here the Sile river meets the Venetian lagoon via the navigation basin; in the past its course continued until the Venetians built the famous ‘Sile cut’ in 1683. This work marked the beginning of a new route for the river, diverting it from its natural mouth. We continue our journey between lagoon and river until we reach Caposile, the point where the Sile joins the Piave Vecchia. Here, where the waters of the two rivers embrace, the landscape changes slightly and we can admire two characteristic bridges: the pontoon bridge across the Sile and the swing bridge over the Piave. The itinerary continues along the picturesque lagoon eaves: after crossing Via Salsi, the cycle path rejoins the course of the river Sile or Piave Vecchia, offering an enchanting panorama of white roads that follow the sinuous bends of the river, finally leading to the remains of the ancient Caigo tower. Here the cycle path stops and to continue the journey we proceed along ordinary roads.  At Jesolo Paese it is possible to cross the river using a footbridge and continue directly on the urban cycle path. Following this route for about 2 km you will finally reach the sea. Or, when you arrive in Jesolo Paese you can choose to stay on the orographic right of the Sile by taking Via Cristo Re, a road along the river that leads to the sea. As you proceed, the few houses give way to a dirt road that reaches the gates of Cavallino for an unforgettable adventure amid nature and history. By visiting the Fiume Sile application, you will find many itineraries and route suggestions that pass through places of natural, historical and cultural interest. Thanks to its intuitive interface, the application is accessible to everyone, from experienced hikers to families looking for an out-of-town
