The fascination of large saurians conquers reptile enthusiasts. More and more often, unusual tenants are appearing in the homes of Italians: the tegu. These large lizards, originally from South America, are winning the hearts of those fond of the species thanks to their imposing appearance and fascinating character. They belong to the Teiidae family and are among the largest lizards in the world. With their flamboyant livery, ranging from black and white to golden, and their robust build they resemble small dinosaurs. In the wild, these reptiles are skilled hunters and omnivores, feeding on insects, small vertebrates, fruit and eggs. Their size and colours make them very scenic animals and they are considered among the most intelligent reptiles, able to recognise their owners and learn simple commands. Although they can be kept indoors, it is essential to be well-informed and prepared before welcoming a Tegu into your family, remembering that they are an exotic animal and making sure all its needs are met to ensure a long and healthy life. Get to know them up close at Tropicarium Park! Open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (9 p.m. last admission). You can purchase a combined ticket with La Fabbrica della Scienza, the interactive exhibition located opposite, family packages and if you bring the grandparents…they pay like the children!
