Elio
IT TAKES AN EAR

Elio sings and plays Enzo Jannacci
Enzo Jannacci was the most eccentric and personal singer-songwriter in the history of Italian song, capable of interweaving seemingly irreconcilable themes and styles: joy and sadness, tragedy and farce, joy and melancholy. On stage, together with Elio, an unusual sound caravan will accompany the sparkling confrontation between two musical acrobats grappling with a boundless and unrepeatable human and musical repertoire, enriched by the writings and thoughts of Jannacci’s real or ideal fellow travellers.

THE INVISIBLE HUSBAND

A video chat between two friends, Fiamma and Lorella, who have not seen each other for some time. After greetings and a chat Lorella announces that she is married! This is extraordinary, given her bad luck with men, but it becomes unbelievable when she reveals that her husband… is invisible. Fiamma fears that the isolation has done irreparable damage to her friend’s mind. She sets out to help her, but has not reckoned with the fatal, bewildering attraction we all have for invisibility. A hilarious comedy about the disappearance of our relationship life, a journey that is chilling in how searing and topical it is.

RIVADEANDRÈFragile Friends

On 14 September 1969, after a match in Genoa by a Cagliari team that was to win its only historic Scudetto that year, Gigi Riva went to see Fabrizio De André at his home in Genoa. He wants to talk about that song – ‘Preghiera in Gennaio’ – that he listens to obsessively, written by De Andrè after returning from the funeral of his friend Luigi Tenco. When the night becomes dawn and the words become too much, Fabrizio gives Gigi his guitar, Gigi gives Fabrizio his number 11 jersey. The two say goodbye, they will never see each other again. Perhaps, for this very reason, a meeting becomes theatre.

MOUSETRAP

“It is not usual for me, often a playwright-director in my own right,” writes Giorgio Gallione, “to measure myself against a classic piece of theatre literature. Certainly to be interpreted, but to be served and respected. This intriguing play is imbued with suspense and irony and is inhabited by characters who are never just silhouettes or gender stereotypes. In fact, the story and the plot can be experienced as contemporary, because the conflicts, the existential wounds, the secrets that each of them explicates or hides are those of contemporary man, of the divided self and of unconscious madness.”

Giorgio Marchesi
THE FU MATTIA PASCAL

“To tell the story of Mattia Pascal,” reads the director’s notes, “we wanted to experiment with a language that could be accessible and appealing to everyone, even and especially to the new generations. (…) we chose a vital, dynamic and amused viewpoint of this ‘really strange case’. On stage Giorgio Marchesi plays the two protagonists, Mattia Pascal and Adriano Meis, and gives voice to the other characters. He is accompanied by Raffaele Toninelli who, with his double bass, creates a musical dramaturgy. The themes treated are very contemporary: the relationship with one’s own identity, today multiplied by social ‘profiles’, but also rebirth after the upheaval of our lives in the last two years.

LOVE POEMS

An evening of contemporary dance. It begins with the intense Duetto inoffensive
by Mauro Bigonzetti, music by Gioacchino Rossini, in which an exchange of energies, feelings and emotions linked to love disappointments takes place between the dancers. This is followed by Brutal Love Poems, choreography by Thomas Noone, music by Jim Pinchen, which explores that ‘wild’ side of us that only reveals itself in the most intimate moments and to those closest to us. The evening closes with Vivaldi human passions, a creation by Michele Merola, who loves to search for perspectives, symmetries, assonances between human feeling and music.

THE LOVERS

That of the quarrelsome Eugenia and Fulgenzio is a love story much more multifaceted than it seems, and the two protagonists are much closer to our times than we think. Two young people who, despite belonging to the so-called ‘middle class’, cannot yet aspire to economic independence and thus decide on their own to form a family. Two young people pressurised by circumstances who, in the grip of jealousy, anger or fear, give in to the impulse to hurt each other, contradicting the flaunted depth of their feelings. Amidst a few highs and many lows, they learn that love is not enough in itself, and indeed managing it is very complex.

PYJAMAS FOR SIX

He, she, the other. The classic triangle that becomes a rhombus when it is discovered that the old friend, invited by the husband to act as an alibi during the clandestine meeting with the lover, is in turn the wife’s lover. A rumble that turns into a rumble when the maid is mistaken for the husband’s lover by the friend, but is forced to play the role of the latter’s lover in the eyes of the wife, who is obviously jealous, but cannot reveal herself until… A light and funny show that, in a crescendo of misunderstandings and laughter, shows a pitiless insight into the emptiness of personal relationships.

Simone Cristicchi
PARADISE. FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT

In every man dwells a longing for the infinite, a sense of separation, a desire for completeness that drives him to search for a meaning to his existence. The task of the human being is to give birth to himself, seeking within Hell – which is very often built by him – glimmers of Paradise: in the light breath of poetry, in the magnificence of art, in the discoveries of science, in the wise book of Nature. Starting from Dante’s cantica, Simone Cristicchi writes and interprets Paradiso. Dalle tenebre alla luce (From Darkness to Light), a theatrical work for voice and symphony orchestra, the story of an inner journey from darkness to light through the powerful voices of the mystics of all times, whose teachings, like an underground river, cross the centuries to reach us with the topicality of their message.
