Sports on two wheels in the Pista Azzurra on Dec. 11

International Grand Prix of Cyclocross 4th edition.

On Sunday, December 11, the Pista Azzurra, an icon in the international karting scene, will host the Jesolo International Cyclocross Grand Prix, a competition for all lovers of the sport and challenges. The event, now in its fourth edition, will feature the junior male, open female (elite, DU23, DJ) and open male (elite and U23) categories.

Cyclocross was born and developed in Europe in the early 1900s as a way to stay fit during the cold season. It is, in fact, a typical winter sport that quickly became an independent specialty.

Cyclo-cross courses are circuits ranging from 2 to 4 kilometers, in a mix of paved and off-road surfaces. What makes the sport unique is that the courses contain obstacles and man-made barriers that force athletes to jump, climb over or dismount and run while carrying their bikes.

Because of this, cyclocross races are fun as well as technically and physically demanding, requiring effort and physical skills needed to compete.

The race is open to the public and can be attended free of charge.

As for the program: from 8 to 9 a.m., the course trials will take place, followed by the masters and at 10 a.m. the beginners.

At 10:40 a.m., however, it is the students’ turn and at 11:30 a.m. the women’s rookies and juniors.

From 12:10 p.m. to 12:55 p.m., however, new course trials are scheduled, while at 1 p.m. junior athletes will take to the track.

At 2 p.m. follows the women’s open and at 3 p.m. the men’s open. Awards will be held at the end of each race.
