A career between cinema, TV and theatre
by Alessio Conforti
She is an undisputed protagonist of the entertainment industry, she has been performing in the main Italian theatres for years. But there’s much more. Fioretta Mari, the stage name of Fioretta Manetti, is also a teacher in the Amici di Maria De Filippi talent show. She has recently performed in Portogruaro with the show “Nunsense – Le amiche di Maria” (Il musical delle suore!)” We met her before her entrance to the Russolo theatre.
In this musical the protagonists are nuns …
It might sound strange, but it isn’t so. The same show has been performed in Broadway for years. I was also invited to New York, for the first time in history. I will play the protagonist speaking in Italian and the other actors will answer in English. The rhythm and the songs are the same. It will be very interesting.
What is your relationship with the United States?
America is very important to me, I have been cooperating with the “Strasberg” acting school for seven years, which was attended by. Among others, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Marilyn Monroe. I am proud to be friends with Anna Strasberg and her sister: they are really amazing.
Do you like Jesolo?
Yes, very much. I’ve been there several times, also for work purposes. I’m always glad to visit Jesolo.
You have worked for cinema, television and theatre. Which one is more suitable for you?
Theatre. It is the most important means of expressions, since it is direct and basic: it’s simply you. Nothing can help you: either you’re good at it or you’re not. In fact, I have a motto …
If you can’t act in theatre, try to act properly in life: it can help you.
What about the cinema?
I recently starred in a movie with Paolo Ruffini, which will be released in October. It was very nice, I had a lot of fun with some extraordinary workmates.
And as for television?
I like it very much. I know that I am respected and loved by the Italian audience. This is also because I had participated in “Amici” with Maria De Filippi for 10 years. This show has marked an era.
How would you define this experience?
What can you tell us about Maria De Filippi?
She is a unique woman: very clever and intuitive. I think highly of her as I’ve rarely done in my life. And I can say that I’ve many people. But nobody is like Maria.
Are the young still interested in theatre?
Sure! In an incredible way. One year and a half ago, I performed in a show in Salerno with Nancy Brilli, directed by Lina Wertmüller. It was called A che servono gli uomini” and was a great success. Everyone was laughing. Many young people showed their appreciation.
What does theatre need now?
It needs positivity and the presence of the artists. But the audience has become too intelligent and demanding.
Can you make a suggestion to the insiders?
Choose the shows wisely. And artists should always be meticulous and diligent!
