Exhibition mosaics of San Marco

Organised by the Mons. Giovanni Marcato Cultural Association, with the collaboration and support of the Jesolo City Council, the exhibition ‘The Mosaics of St. Mark’s. A 1600 anni dal Natale di Venezia’ opens. This is a travelling exhibition promoted by the Veneto Region, the Procuratoria della Basilica di San Marco, MIUR and Centro Culturale Terzo Millennio. Through an exhibition of 40 panels, an iconographic itinerary unfolds to admire the most beautiful and significant mosaics of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, recounting the human events that began with the creative act of God and culminated in the death and resurrection of Christ. The exhibition, open at the Kursaal Congress Centre in Piazza Brescia, will be opened on 24 June by H.Em. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop Emeritus of Genoa. The exhibition will remain open to the public every day until 15 July, from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm, and visits will be guided by the students of the ‘Primo Levi’ High School of Badia Polesine. The reading of mosaics in the Middle Ages was certainly a clear language, today it may seem reserved for experts, but it is not difficult to rediscover in the beauty of the mosaic the meaning it communicates and to remember the Origin that produced this work in the past and that makes it relevant to us today.
